Beach Pit Fire

These pots are not glazed, they are stained with smoke...
They are first wrapped in flammable materials from land and sea..
And then layered with various woods and minerals....
Then we wait all day until everything is burned out and the pots are cool enough to get out. I love how they turn out, I can't wait for the next one. Seaweed seems to make the best colors and patterns, especially the black stringy stuff.

Been doing some charcoal drawing lately, here is the Staghorn Fern in my living room. I love this fern, it's like a living piece of art, and super easy to take care of. When the leaves start to curl under, I soak it in water and hang it back up for a couple weeks.

Asian series 2012 "Dreams of Angkor Wat"

My Original Bodhisattva is made useful with a String of Hearts Plant. aka Buddha hair

This little boat was inspired by the Bodhi below who comes in on clouds. Unenlightened folks may need a ship to travel the clouds. I added glass pieces in the boat during the glaze process for a transparent bottom, sort of a glass bottom boat idea.

A quick replica of a 13th century Japanese style Bodhisattva sitting on a lotus, floating in on swirling clouds. I love the Japanese style curling clouds and wanted to try my hand at it. I think it turned out well, but I want to make more elaborate ones next.
An oil clay mock up for my larger Bodhisattva with lots of detail.

Tentacled Masks

"Alien Relic" Raku fired stoneware mask. The unexpeted textures came out in the firing and really add to the carved textures. This one scares me a little.

Squid-like dark Cthulhu Raku fired mask. Sculpted with fingers only and Raku fired with crawling glaze for a random and one of a kind finish. This squid like monster came out of my love for tentacled sea creatures and Sci-fi lore. In the series of 3, this is the "serious" Cthulhu. The glaze came out of the fire with beautiful iridescence and matte texture. It's always a wonderful surprise to clean off the ashes and find these colors. I just love the fade from rusty brown to ocean green at the tips. A wonderful textural piece and the inspiration for a new series to come.
Find it HERE.

Making monsters can be a little too serious for me, so i have to go with the humor when it comes up.
While making this next one, moving the tentacles around in the soft clay I lifted one up high and suddenly it looked like a shy laughing octopus hiding his smile. And so I made the eyes to match. I really love how the tentacle "pose" came out.

Four Eyes Art Collective show March 31st 2012 in Chinatown, Los Angeles

Last night's Four Eyes Art Collective show went great! We had a huge turnout, all the bands were amazing, and I even met a celebrity I am a great fan of. What an awesome Saturday night. Like us on Facebook to find out about upcoming shows.
Here is my wall from last night.

Depictions of winged figures have been found carved in stone as early as the Sumerian culture. Each culture has their own interpretation of angelic beings. This project explores the correlation between the faces of the people and the faces of their angels. They all have a unique interpretation of a similar deity mirroring the facial features and heroic qualities of the culture.

BODHISATTVA Buddhist embodiment of infinite compassion. A Bodhisattva is anyone who motivated by great compassion wishes to attain Buddhahood for the benefit of all sentient beings. Modeled after a Cambodian depiction.

VALKYRIE Norse Mythology, she decides who lives and dies in battle and whisks them off to the afterlife. She’s a badass of the angelic beings, very Nordic.
